Bishop Iona Locke is a beloved Michigan bishop of Christ Centered Ministries. It is reported that she sadly passed away this week (mid-December) and tributes to her are flooding Twitter.
Bishop Dr. Iona E. Locke was born in Pittsburgh, PA, and is one of nine siblings according to her biography. At an early age, she came to know Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, and according to Acts 2: 4, she was baptized with the Holy Spirit.
She began her education in the Pittsburgh School System and later attended Harty Bible School. The Lord commissioned Bishop Locke to continue her Christian training. In doing so, she went on to complete her doctorate in Divinity and Theology Programs in July 1994. It is more knowledgeable to combine education with experience.
Bishop Iona was consecrated as bishop on August 23, 2000, as presiding prelate of Christ Centered Ministries. An official statement from Iona’s family, the Christ-Centered Ministries Association, and the Christ-Centered Church of Abyssinia was posted on social media on Friday morning (December 18) announcing that Iona Locke has unfortunately passed away.
The ad quoted a passage from Corinthians before saying:
“It is with great sadness and regret that the Locke family, the Christ-Centered Ministerial Association and the Christ-Centered Church of Abyssinia announce the Episcopal Transition of His Grac, Presiding Bishop Iona E. Locke.”
The cause of his death is currently unknown, but the statement says that he had suffered a “season of illness” before requesting everyone’s “continued prayers” for his family, church and fellowship.
