When he came to the Coral Gables campus in 1979, he was talked about disbanding the underperforming soccer program.

“I will miss his warm heart, his warm hands and his soft kisses. Howard always treated me in a special way, like a queen, and he was truly the husband that all Canadian girls dream of, ”he added. “You will always be my love, now and forever. I am proud to be your wife. You were a great leader of men and the leader of our lives. ”

“The loss of coach Schnellenberger is immeasurable in many ways for the University of Miami family,” Blake James, director of athletics at the University of Miami, said in a statement. “He helped our University grow over a critical period of time and laid the foundation for future success, on and off the soccer field. He will be remembered as much more than a coach. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, former teammates and his players. It will always be a hurricane. ”
