Beca Richards Wiki
Beca Richards Biography
Who was Beca Richards?
Beca Richards, 23, had traveled to the primary school in Narberth, Pembrokeshire, before the start of a new term, her first as a teacher, to set up her classroom on August 20 last year.
He had only recently finished his teaching studies, but on his way home his Vauxhall Corsa was involved in a head-on collision with a cement truck and he died in hospital.
After the accident, his family was proud that, as a donor, Beca could still “provide a better life for others as her final gift.”
Beca’s mother, Eleri James, and her two brothers Llion, 31, and Tegid, 28, have now revealed that her organs went on to save the lives of strangers.
This includes a kidney donated to a young woman in her 20s and her pancreas and another kidney to a 42-year-old mother.
Eleri, 42, added: “She had been organizing her classroom and the headmistress told her at the end of that day, ‘Your classroom is perfect, you don’t need to come back before the beginning of September.’
“But Beca, being Beca, hadn’t realized that schools don’t provide writing materials for students and that it was the parents’ responsibility to provide them.
“Being a perfectionist and obviously worried about this, he visited The Range in the morning to collect 26 pencils, 26 erasers and 26 small plant pots.”
Her mother, a registered nurse, said she told her daughter to wait until the beginning of term to bring the equipment.
But Beca replied: ‘What if one of the children forgets her pencil case the first morning? They would be devastated and I don’t want that to happen.
Eleri also recalled the last time he spoke to his daughter before the fatal accident.
She said that Beca had called her from school at 4:30 p.m. m. to tell her that she was about to leave, but she added that she was suffering from a very bad headache after not eating or drinking for the whole day. Her mother told her to drink some water before she left.
Eleri continued, “Her last act of kindness from him that day was to place a pencil and eraser on each student’s chair.”
An earlier investigation heard how Beca’s car had stopped on a grassy verge, but she had sustained serious head injuries in the collision.
Pembrokeshire Coroner Paul Bennett later recorded a finding of traumatic injuries sustained from traffic collision.
causes of Death
Following his death, Beca’s family is now raising awareness about the importance of organ donation.
In addition to having donated organs to the mother and the young woman, Beca’s heart has been saved to help up to four people, since the valves and the tissue itself can be used.
Eleri said: ‘My children and my only wish was that a young person could be saved and the little children, because Beca lived to help little children, could get her mother back through her organs.
“There were a lot of decisions we had to make as a family. As a nurse, I have been with many families when they have had to make difficult decisions before, but it was all about my daughter.
I’ve helped thousands and thousands of patients over the years, but I couldn’t get my daughter to get better. That is the hardest thing any mother or nurse could go through.
She added: ‘Eleri added: ‘She was an absolute delight of a daughter and my best friend. I thrive on the fact that I had her for 23 years of my life.
“The fact that Beca was so affectionate in life, she was also after life. And to me that’s the greatest gift anyone can give.
