Barry Austin Biography
Barry Austin, of Chelmsley Wood, Birmingham, died yesterday, according to Birmingham City FC’s official Twitter page, and his family paid tribute to a “wonderful” man.
The heartbroken daughter of his partner, Dannie Louise, paid tribute to him on Facebook, saying his family had ‘fallen apart’. The cause of Austin’s death is still unknown.
At one point, Austin consumed up to 29,000 calories and drank up to 12 liters of soda in one day.
He gained notoriety for his overeating and was once featured in a Sky One documentary ‘Inside Britain’s Fattest Man’ hosted by Richard Hammond.

Paying tribute, her stepdaughter wrote: ‘Absolutely heartbroken is the only word I can say about how I feel right now. Rest in paradise for the great man in my life, my dad Barry Grizzly Austin.
‘I loved you as you were and this is how we treat each other. You were the kind of dad who was always there no matter what. We had our ups and downs, but I can honestly say that I never loved you differently.
Either way, it will be difficult to deal with your not being around anymore. Seeing my mom as she is, horrible. The whole family has fallen apart.
Barry, who used to drink up to 40 pints of beer and liquor bottles on a night out and was known as’ Fat Baz ‘, also had his own column in a boys’ magazine and was often seen on the BBC news commenting on current affairs.
The former taxi driver is said to have lost 20 stones in April 2012 while preparing to marry his then fiancee Debbie Kirby, 50, of Solihull, West Midlands.
Barry was still reported to be suffering from serious problems with his legs and a growth which weighed two or three stone in its own right.
The Brummie, who even had his own custom-made chair on the Birmingham FC soccer field in 1997, is now reported to have died with tributes on social media.
Birmingham City FC posted: ‘We are saddened to hear of the passing of Barry Austin, Lifetime Bluenose.
‘His love for the Blues was unquestionable. Rest in peace, Baz.
Barry was surpassed as the fattest man in Britain by Paul Mason, who weighed more than 70 kilos. But Britain’s fattest man is now a takeaway app addict Jason Holton, 30, of Camberley, Surrey.
Jason, who weighs 50 stones, had to be hauled out of his third-floor apartment by the fire service in October 2020 after being trapped inside for five years.
