Who is Austin Alvarez ?

A California man was arrested and charged with murder after he allegedly shot and killed his grandmother and his father’s girlfriend while they were exchanging gifts on Christmas Day.

Austin Alvarez, 23, had arrived at the family home in the 17000 block of Goodfellow Avenue in Reedley, a city about 20 miles southeast of Fresno, where the Christmas gathering took place.

Álvarez is then said to have opened fire and shot his grandmother Magdalena Álvarez, 58, and the girlfriend of his father, Meisha Rashid, 39, before leaving the house in their GMC truck.

Arrested and Charged

He was later found and arrested by the police and faces charges of murder and attempted murder.

Alvarez was booked into the Fresno County Jail on two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder, with bail set at $ 2.5 million. He remains in custody until Monday morning, according to jail records.

The investigation is ongoing by the police and the motive for the horrific double murder is currently unclear.

Fresno County Sheriff’s Office deputies had responded to the scene around 1:45 a.m. Friday after the department was informed of the shooting, according to their news release.

They reached the house where they found the two women suffering fatal gunshot wounds.

Álvarez had also fired the gun at his father after leaving the house when he noticed him sitting in a parked vehicle, it is claimed. As a result, he was not hit or injured.

A newsletter was then published in an effort to find Alvarez after he fled the scene in a pickup truck.

The California Highway Patrol and the local departments of Reedley, Sanger, Orange Cove and Kingsburg conducted a combined search effort for Alvarez.

He was eventually tracked down and captured about 10 miles from his home in Orange Cove.

Victims

Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies found the victims after responding to a call about shooting at a home in the 17000 block of Goodfellow Avenue in Reedley around 1:45 p.m. December 25.

Suspect

Authorities said they learned through interviews that the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Austin Alvarez, came to the home while Christmas gifts were being exchanged and opened fire, fatally wounding Magdalena Alvarez, his 58-year-old grandmother, and Meisa. Rashid. , the 39-year-old girlfriend of his father.

“As Álvarez was leaving the house, he noticed his father in a parked vehicle,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. “Álvarez fired in his direction, but didn’t hit him.”

Investigation

Alvarez was booked into the Fresno County Jail and faces two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. Bail for him has been set at $ 2.5 million.
