Who is Areyelle Yarbrough (32-year-old woman, shot dead in Alabama park)
A woman died and many more were injured in Alabama Sunday night after an argument broke out at a firearm park.
“At the time of the shooting, hundreds of people had gathered in the park to celebrate the Easter holidays when the shooting broke out,” Birmingham police said, according to CNN.
Officers said when they arrived at the scene shortly after 7 p.m. On Sunday, 32-year-old Areyelle Yarbrough was found lying on the ground with gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead on the spot.
According to police, five other people were shot dead in the incident, including four children between the ages of 5 and 17. All were in stable condition at a local hospital.
The shooting broke out shortly before 7 p.m. in the 3900 block of 14th Avenue North and Sipsey Street in Patton Park, as hundreds of people gathered to celebrate the Easter holiday.
Birmingham police said Areyelle Yarbrough of Bessemer was found shot to death on the ground just outside the passenger door of her car. They were also shot at a 21-year-old, another 17, 16, 15 and 5 years old. The victims were taken to a hospital in the area, their condition is listed as stable.
No arrests were made in connection with the Sunday night shootings.
Police said they believed the shooting was the result of an altercation between “two groups of men that turned into a shooting in the crowded park.”
The evidence gathered indicates that more than 30 bullets were fired, police said.
“This park was full of people, full of families, and we know that people saw things,” Sgt Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said, according to CNN.
