Anthony Merriett, who was working on a video about gun violence in Philadelphia, was fatally shot Monday after interviewing family members in the city who had been affected.
Fox 29 reported that Merriett, who was shot around 8 p.m. in North Philadelphia. a residence to retrieve equipment for the interview. They shot him in the head, chest, torso and legs. They discovered him on the sidewalk just outside his work van and took him to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“This 55-year-old man worked for a production company. They were inside a private residence. They were interviewing and filming some family members whose children were victims of gun violence in the last two or three years, ”said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

Action News was told that the anti-violence video was streaming on Netflix.
Merriett had left the home to get more equipment from his truck when he was shot multiple times, authorities said.
The police took him to the hospital, where they pronounced him dead.
The bag with the production equipment was found on the sidewalk along with two cell phones, police said.
A motive is being investigated.

Police say at least four shots were fired and four spent shell casings were found on the sidewalk and in a vacant lot just yards from where Merriett was lying when police arrived.
“We don’t know if it was a robbery if they took his wallet and money from him,” Small said.
This marked the 119th homicide of the year in Philadelphia.
The Philadelphia City Council will hold a special committee Tuesday on preventing gun violence. The council wants to discuss the city’s strategic plan to address gun violence and how to keep children safe.
