Who is Anthony Citro?
A Denville man was charged Tuesday with setting his home on fire after killing his mother and leaving his body in the home.
Denville-born Anthony Citro, 41, has been charged with manslaughter, arson and weapons-related offenses following a joint statement by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, and the Department of Denville Police.
Police and firefighters were called to the Citroën home at 37 Chestnut Hill Drive East at 7:24 a.m. Monday after receiving an emergency call reporting a fire. When police arrived, they found Citro in front of the house with blood on his clothes and smoke escaped from inside, they said.
Denville volunteer firefighters were able to put out the fire, which was later classified as an arson, and discovered the body of a woman inside, police said. The woman has been identified as Citroën’s mother, Eileen Citro, 68, authorities said.
The cause of death was declared murder by the Morris County Coroner’s Office and the mode of death was determined by sharp and violent injuries.
Citro was charged and remained in custody until he appeared in court on Tuesday, the office said.
