Acevska, who was serving as an office manager with full control of accounts payable and accounts receivable, began helping herself with company money within two months of joining.
She stole $ 19,565 in a single transaction in January 2019.
But her theft was discovered in March 2020 when someone else took over her duties while she was on leave.
Police discovered a collection of luxury brand clothing and bags, as well as a black Mercedes, when they raided his home in Truganina, west Melbourne.
The mother of two herself told police that she gambled large amounts of money on slot machines about four times a week and that she had struggled financially since she divorced in 2008, without financial support from her ex-husband.wikipedia
“I felt sick … my children are everything to me and I feel like I have betrayed them,” Acevska said after her arrest in September 2020.
The mother of two used the money to fund her lavish lifestyle and addiction to slots.
“And not just them … even my job. I’ve failed everyone. I’m really sorry. I was too much of a coward to admit it.”
Judge Anne Hassan accepted that Acevska was facing financial difficulties and had “mistakenly” stolen money to support her two children, one of whom has an intellectual disability.
But she said the 50-year-old, who made $ 1,100 a week at Williamstown Crane Hire, could not be considered “destitute.”
The judge also described Acevska’s crime as “relentless” and a serious breach of trust.
“Although until now you were a person of good character, that carries less weight because you relied on your good character to ensure a position of trust within the company you robbed,” Judge Hassan said.
Acevska must serve at least one year and three months behind bars before being eligible for parole.
