Logan was in a nursery class at Brynmenyn Elementary School in Bridgend, where the students and staff loved him.

Mother Lois Shepherd, 25, left behind a stuffed baby shark chosen by her daughter Maisie-Rae, 4, after news of her death broke.

She said at the time: ‘I am shocked and stunned, it is such a small community that everyone is feeling the pain of what happened.’

Messages left on the riverbank also included: ‘Fly high Logan, sending love and kisses’, ‘RIP angel’ and ‘Thinking of you’.

A mother of two who drove two miles to the scene said through tears in August: “I didn’t know the boy or his family, but I felt like I had to come.

‘It’s so sad, I can’t understand it’

Investigation

An opening of the investigation heard that Logan was discovered in the Ogmore River, in Sarn, Bridgend, on July 31.

Coroner Lauren Howitt said at the Pontypridd hearing that Logan had been formally identified by her grandmother Claire Williamson.

A post-mortem examination was carried out, but the provisional cause of death was pending further investigation.

South Wales Coroner Rachel Knight said: “I am convinced that an investigation is necessary as there is reason to expect his death to be violent or unnatural.

“I have seen correspondence from the CPS in this case that says people have appeared in criminal court and a trial date has been set.”

Cole, Williamson and the young man will face a four-week trial next year to decide their part in the tragic death of ‘cheeky boy’ Logan.

A court previously heard that the young man suffered ‘extreme pain’ in an attack before he was found after a search.

A provisional test date for all three was set for January 31 of next year with an estimated time of four weeks.
