Who is Angela Rayner ?

A man was arrested after Labor MP Angela Rayner received threatening and abusive phone calls.

The 52-year-old was arrested by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) on suspicion of malicious communications at an address in Halifax on Wednesday morning.

Angela Rayner (née Bowen; born March 28, 1980) is a British politician serving as Shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Shadow Secretary of State for the Future of Work since 2021 and First Secretary of State in the Shadow, Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Deputy. She has been the leader of the Labor Party since 2020. She has been a Member of Parliament (MP) for Ashton-under-Lyne since 2015.

A spokesperson for the MP said that she and her staff had received a series of threatening, malicious and abusive communications in recent weeks.

She identifies ideologically as a socialist and as part of the Labor soft left.

Rayner was born in Stockport, where she attended Avondale School State High School. She dropped out of school at the age of 16 while pregnant and without any degree. She later trained in welfare and eventually became a union representative within Unison, during which time she joined the Labor Party. Selected to compete in Ashton-under-Lyne in 2014, Rayner was elected to the seat in the 2015 general election.

Investigation

Ms. Rayner thanked the police “for her work during these investigations.”

Sergeant Christopher Dean of Greater Manchester Police said: “Abusive, threatening or intimidating behavior towards anyone is completely unacceptable, and we will always do what we can to ensure that those responsible are identified and held accountable for their behavior.

“Although we have arrested a man, our investigation is ongoing and we will continue to search all available lines of investigation to identify all those responsible.

Early life and career

Rayner was born on March 28, 1980 in Stockport, Greater Manchester. She attended Avondale School in Stockport, she dropped out of school at 16 after becoming pregnant and did not get any grades. she Later she studied part-time at Stockport College, learned British Sign Language, and earned an NVQ level 2 in social care.

After leaving college, Rayner worked for the Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council as a social worker for several years. During this time, she was also elected as a union representative for Unison.She was later chosen as the coordinator of Unison North West, becoming the most important union official in the region. Member of parliament

In September 2014, Rayner was selected as a Labor candidate for Ashton-under-Lyne, following the retirement of David Heyes. She won the seat in the 2015 general election, increasing the Labor majority and her share of the vote.she delivered her keynote address on June 3, 2015.

Rayner nominated Andy Burnham in the 2015 Labor leadership election, but he was one of 18 Members of Parliament (MP) who backed incumbent Jeremy Corbyn against Owen Smith in the 2016 leadership election.

On July 1, 2016, after a series of resignations from the shadow Cabinet, Corbyn appointed Rayner as Secretary of State for Shadow Education.She supported the notion of a “National Education Service” to be modeled on similar lines to the National Health Service (NHS), also promoting an increase in funding for early childhood education.Some of her considered her a possible future Labor leader.

In the 2019 general election, Rayner was reinstated as a member of Parliament for the third time in 5 years. She did not run for Labor leadership in the 2020 leadership election, supporting her roommate Rebecca Long-Bailey, who came in second to Sir Keir Starmer. She successfully ran for Assistant Principal, elected on April 4, 2020, replacing Tom Watson. She was appointed Deputy Director of the Opposition, First Shadow Secretary of State and Chairperson of the Labor Party in the following days. In October 2020, Rayner called Heywood and Middleton Conservative MP Chris Clarkson “scum” while delivering a speech in Parliament.her Later she apologized.

Rayner identifies as a socialist. Rayner is also a member of the Labor Friends of Palestine and the Middle East.

Personal life

In 2010, she married Mark Rayner, a Unison official.She has three children, her firstborn when she was 16 years old.her second child, Charlie, was born prematurely at 23 weeks and Rayner says the care her son received demonstrated the importance of the NHS to her. Rayner lives in his constituency of Ashton-under-Lyne with her family. She became a grandmother in November 2017 . Rayner and her husband are separated.

In an interview with the BBC’s Evan Davis in 2018, Rayner said her mother had been unable to read or write; a repeat of part of a tribute she paid to her mother in 2016.

In March 2019, Rayner said that she had placed panic buttons at her home after she sent him death and rape threats a few weeks earlier.
