Andy Burnham today accused Sir Keir Starmer of sidelining Labor underground mayors at the party’s annual conference.

Speaking at a fringe event in Brighton this afternoon, Mr Burnham stated that Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, will be the only regional mayor to address the main conference room from the platform.

Mr Burnham said it is necessary “to see the commitment of this party to the north of England”.
The former MP said Labor should focus on rebuilding in the north of the country “because when we rebuild there we will keep it strong and that will be the foundation of future Labor governments.”
Labor sources said that Mr. Burnham and Ms. Brabin plan to deliver some comments in the conference room.
Burnham said Labor must fully commit to the return because locally elected mayors have the power to improve lives.
He compared the party and his apparent obsession with waiting for the general election to win power to that of a “problem gambler.”
He said, “This mentality that we have in the Labor Party is that we say ‘you know what? We will wait four more years, and then we will go in, and this time, and this time. ”

Mr. Burnham was featured at the event organized by the Progressive Economics Forum as the ‘King of the North’.
