Who was Anastasiia Yalanskaya?

Anastasiia Yalanskaya, 26, was one of three volunteers who made the dangerous journey to a local dog shelter in Bucha, 18 miles from Kiev and near Ipren, where many began to evacuate, when her car was deliberately attacked by Russian forces on Thursday. with ‘heavy weapons,’ her family said.

Her last Instagram story from her, on March 3, showed her sitting in the back of the vehicle, surrounded by bags of dog food.

“We bought food for volunteer dogs who ran out of proper food,” she wrote on Telegram on March 1.

Family

It is unknown if his car was hit, but his friends and family believe Russian troops are targeting more civilians. As of March 4, approximately 1,000 Ukrainian civilians have been killed since Vladimir Putin unleashed the war on the neighboring country.

Bucha has been in the crosshairs of the Russian war for days, and the shelter Yalanskaya was traveling to had reportedly already been without food for three days.

“I asked her to be more cautious,” her estranged husband, Yevhen Yalanskyi, told her, according to the New York Post. ‘A mistake costs a lot, but she was helping everyone. I asked her to think about evacuation, but she didn’t listen.

Her friend Anastasiia Hryshchenko, who evacuated to Vinnytsia, had been in constant contact with Yalanskaya and had contacted one of her other volunteers when he heard from her within several hours. He informed her that she found the car near one of the volunteers’ houses and they didn’t make it.

Her car was found not far from her home, covered in bullets, and her body was taken to a nearby morgue.

Causes of Death

She documented her experiences with the war on Telegram. Writing the day before her death, she detailed that she tried to get to Irpen, but she couldn’t because of the blown-up bridge. She said: ‘Tomorrow we’ll try to go the other way’

A day before her death, she detailed her failed trip to Irpen and how the bridge was ‘blown up’.
