Anas Aboearab Biography
Who is Anas Aboearab?
Anas Aboearab, 18, confronted the victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, after one of her friends threw a bag of food at her table at McDonald’s on Northumberland Street in Newcastle on May 30 at 4:40 p.m.
The victim stood up and punched Aboearab when she saw her reach into her pocket. He was later stabbed once in the torso before being chased down the street.
Members of the public called an ambulance and it was discovered that he had a one-centimeter wound to the left side of his chest with a small puncture to his lung.
Aboearab claimed that she kept the knife on him “to cut fruit”.
Victim
The victim said: ‘I was told at the scene that my condition was critical and that I was very scared about this. I had to go without friends in the ambulance and I didn’t know what was going on. Nothing like this had ever happened before and I was worried about my family and how they would feel.
‘At the hospital they told me about my punctured lung and how serious it was. The whole incident was very scary. When I started a physical recovery, I was still in pain, but I wanted to go back to school and get back to normal. On my first day I had a panic attack and had to go home.
The judge called Aboearab’s claim that he had the knife to cut fruit “complete nonsense” and said he had shown very little remorse.
Kate Barnes, defending her, said: “She had a disadvantaged childhood and has been living independently as an asylum seeker since the age of 17 without parental support.”
Ms. Barnes added that Aboearab maintains that she was carrying the knife to cut fruit, but she does not stand by her claim in the pre-sentence report that she acted in her own defense.
