Who was Alimihan Seyiti?

The oldest person in China, who is also said to be the oldest person in history, died at the age of 135 in his local municipality.

Alimihan Seyiti, from Komuxerik in Shule County in the northwest Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, died on December 16.

According to the county Publicity Department, Seyiti was born on June 25, 1886, during the imperial Qing dynasty.

If true, this would have made her the oldest person in history, although this has not been confirmed internationally.

How old was Alimihan Seyiti?

She was 135 year old.

Family

She married in 1903 when she was 17 years old and adopted a son and daughter with her husband, who passed away in 1976, and went on to have 43 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The Chinese Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics reported that she was the oldest living citizen in the country in 2013.

Until her death last week, the super centennial led a simple life and she enjoyed her daily routine of always eating on time, helping take care of her great-grandchildren, and sunbathing in her garden.

However, the 135-year-old woman is not the only citizen of the region who has enjoyed an unusually long life.

Death

Komuxerik has been dubbed the “city of longevity” by local residents and boasts many OAPs aged 90 and over, according to local reports.

Improving health services is a factor for residents living longer after the regional government provided free annual check-ups, a home health service and monthly benefits for citizens aged 60 and over.

Although the Chinese government claimed the woman was 135 years old, her age was never verified internationally, according to reports.

Guinness World Records confirmed that it had never been asked to independently verify the woman’s age, and Jeanne Calment of France, who died in 1997 at age 122, continues to rank as the oldest person.

Currently, Jeanne Calment is the only confirmed person who has turned 120 and has been independently age verified.

Census data showed that she managed to outlive her daughter and her grandson.

Additionally, other people in her family were known to have lived above average, with her brother living until 97, her father until 93, and her mother until 86.

The oldest living person to have been verified is Kane Tanaka from Japan, who will turn 119 years old on January 2.
