The forces of order recover the remains of Alexis Tiara Murphy

After more than seven years of search efforts, the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, the Richmond Division of the FBI, and the Appomattox Field Office of the Virginia State Police Office of Criminal Investigation announced that they have located and recovered the remains of 17-year- old Alexis Tiara Murphy, missing. Nelson County, Virginia.

Alexis disappeared on August 3, 2013, after visiting a local gas station in Lovingston, Virginia. Local, state and federal police searched multiple leads and conducted numerous searches, at the time, in an effort to locate Alexis. Searches have continued periodically since her disappearance of her de ella in 2013, and law enforcement agencies have expanded the search area each time.

On December 3, 2020, the remains were located on private property near Stagebridge Road, along Route 29 in Lovingston. The remains were transported to the Office of the Central District Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) in Richmond for positive identification. A positive ID was received from OCME on February 5, 2021. With careful consideration that Alexis ’family was paramount, notification to the community was delayed to give them time to cry and make the necessary arrangements.

With the thorough investigation, successful prosecution by the Nelson County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, and Alexis ’recovery, this case is no longer active.
