He also played for Treviso, Reggiana and ten other Italian clubs before retiring in 2017.
But tragedy struck on Monday when he was found unresponsive by emergency services in a Peugeot in the Sicilian capital Palermo.
Omolade’s family said the Kaduna-born player had previously reported pain in his leg.
Initial investigations found that he did not suffer any external injuries.
Torino announced: “President Urbano Cairo and the entire Torino Football Club sincerely share the pain of the Omolade family for the passing of our former player Akeem Omolade.
“Signed from Treviso, he played first in our youth team and then in the first team, making his Serie A debut against Inter Milan on February 2, 2003.
“The entire Torino family sends its deepest condolences to their loved ones, their parents and their many friends.”
Omolade figured in the fight against racism during his time at Treviso after being attacked by a group of Ultras from the club.
His teammates painted their faces black for the next game in a show of solidarity with the striker.
Omolade played as recently as last season when he appeared for Altofonte in Sicily.
The ace also spent time in Italy’s lower leagues with the likes of Borgata Terrenove and Mazara.
