Who was Aiden Leos?

Officials are expected to hold a news conference Monday following the announcement that two suspects were arrested in the death of Aiden Leos, the 6-year-old Orange County boy who was killed in a shooting on a freeway last month.

The suspects have been identified as Marcus Anthony Eriz, 24, and Wynne Lee, 23.

The persecution of more than two weeks came to an end Sunday with the arrest of Eriz and Lee at their home in Costa Mesa, according to the California Highway Patrol, which said they are expected to be charged with murder. The suspects are being held on bail of $ 1 million each.

Aiden was killed on May 21 while his mother was taking him to kindergarten. The boy was sitting in a booster seat on the right rear passenger side when someone in another vehicle opened fire between 7:55 and 8:15 a.m. on Highway 55 northbound between Highway 22 and Chapman Avenue.

Arrested

Two suspects have been arrested in the shooting death of Aiden Leos, the 6-year-old Orange County boy who died on the freeway last month.

Leos was rushed to Orange County Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities have released few details about the circumstances that led to the suspects’ arrest. But they have previously said that a man and a woman were driving a white Volkswagen and the male passenger is believed to have fired the shots that killed Aiden.

A press conference is expected to be held on Monday afternoon.

“I’m very, very confident that we have the right people in custody,” Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said. “The public should be very, very proud of what the law enforcement community did and the public did to come together to bring justice for this child. Aiden Leos died, age six. He had his whole life ahead of him. His the parents should have been planning their kindergarten and primary education. Not their funeral. ”

The Leos will be buried Monday in a private ceremony.

“While these arrests will not ease the pain of the loss of a mother, my hope is that the Leos family has some peace of mind and is reassured that CHP will work with the Orange County District Attorney to bring justice for Aiden.” CHP Commissioner Amanda Ray said in a statement issued Sunday.

The CHP previously released a photo of the suspect vehicle, described as a 2018 or 2019 white Volkswagen Golf Sportswagen with non-tinted windows and a sunroof. Authorities believe the woman was driving the vehicle and the male passenger, who fired the gun, was sitting in the front seat.

Death

Authorities have released a photo of the suspect vehicle involved in the road rage that shot and killed 6-year-old Aiden Leos.

Community groups and local government agencies contributed to a bounty fund that grew to at least $ 500,000 to find the suspects.

A moving memorial service was held for Aiden on Saturday afternoon.

The service at Calvary Chapel Yorba Linda was not open to the public to attend, but was streamed live for viewing online.

“This is a memorial, not a funeral,” said Pastor Joshua Holiday. “A funeral is a ceremony, it takes place in connection with the burial or cremation, the death of someone and signifies the end of their existence. A memorial service is a ceremony that serves to preserve the memory of someone’s life. The focal point is different. ”

“We are here to celebrate Aiden’s life,” he added.
Joanna Cloonan, the boy’s mother, praised her son in an emotional tribute. She opened her comments by expressing gratitude for the great support from loved ones and strangers alike.

“Your kindness, your prayers, your support, and incredible generosity has helped give me so much strength that today I can stand on my own two feet, in front of you, and share the beauty of who Aiden was and still is.” Cloonan said.

“The joy he brought into our lives was unsurpassed,” she said. “My heart melted every time he laughed.”

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that supporters make donations to help the family through a couple of GoFundMe pages that can be found here and here.
